Not a total sweep for UK rightwing

My FB friend Mansoor Ali Choudhury tips me to the defeat of English rightwing MP George Galloway in the Tory landslide.

To be clear, while the Tories are a rightist party, and Galloway is a far rightist, Galloway was not a Tory. In fact, he got his start as a Labour MP. Labour expelled him.

He has had to shop for constituencies (easy to do in England), but seems to have run out his string. The Independent calls his loss "stunning," but in the Tory sweep he lost to a Labour candidate 2-1.

  1. Only someone who has ground his axe entirely away could consider Galloway right wing.

Unless he was bound and determined to further prove that right and left wing are perfectly useless descriptors.

  2. A comment from someone who has wholly embraced the rightwing idea that the Nazis were leftwing.

  3. Go read his bio in Wikipedia, or any other place you might care to. Galloway is a progressive.

Galloway is a far rightist in the same sense that a dog is a cat.

  4. One way to become a rightwinger is to adopt the rightwing program, like Mussolini did when he went from being a socialist to being a fascist. I have even heard that some people think Mussolini had to always be a socialist because he was one once.

Or, going the other way, Marie Le Pen was a born rightwinger who seems to be trying (how sincerely is hard to say) to become more centrist.

  5. Fine, let's say that's true. It doesn't really say anything, because the difference between socialist and fascist is without distinction, but never mind: I'll take it as read. It says not a word about Galloway.

Now, describe what it is that Galloway did to become a right winger.

  6. He adopted as his platform the main position of the European rightwing.

  7. You have a link to that, by any chance?

  8. Probably hundreds, if not thousands, as he was one of England's best-known racists for decades. But when I do post links, you cavil and kvetch, so the incentive to post more is not compelling.

  9. I "cavil and kvetch" because your links are either preposterous (Tea Partiers chant "let him die"), dmenstrate your ignorance (machine guns), or contradict your assertion (busing). And when challenged you always, as in sun rises in the east always, shift the goal posts, or suddenly go silent.

By all means, link to something substantively supporting your, so far, baseless assertion.
